Helischool - the virtual flightschool

Lesson 6 - Landing of the helicopter

Safe landing succeed from a slight forward drive. The heli landed, as all aircrafts, most safest against the wind. Transverse drive is not in question.

The heli comes from right-aback, in slightly forward-drive against the wharf. At this stage it ist important, that the heli had clearly speed and neither raise not fall.

  • Take the nose a bit high and thus slow the drive. Don't come to rest!
  • The thereby entered buoyancy- loss should fall the heli of alone.
  • Few centimeters above the ground the heli get almost stalled and you can reduce the pitch till the ground contact.
  • By contact take the pitch quickly away.
  • If the heli driftet away in the last moment, please started immediately and repeat the matter.

The great moment

How long are you goint to drag the disturbing landing-frame? You feel since a long time, that you keep the drive to zero by the touch of the heli?

Well, then make a small agreement. Dismount the landing-helps and remove the balls from one of the stakes.

Mount this stake across the vats before the backmost vatsbails. That put your mind at rest and the heli can not tilt so easily...

On an even place without thick tussocks start the first time "without down".
You will be surprised. The helicopter reacted joyously and offhanded. He is much calmer. You feel the new ease for yourself and the heli as a good deed! The flight-duration increases immediately about 1-2 minutes.

Now practice some landing approaches without stopping. Then the time has come - you land! And again and again and three days later, missing the baton on the vats (you have never really required).

You practice the landing maneuvers from different heights of about 2-4 m.

Make approaches also coming from the left. Otherwise one get to quickly unilaterally!

Go back to make point approaches. It is important, that you don't glide on the floor to the target... No, always oncoming from the top to hit the point.

A word to kibbitzers, who are admitted from today ;-)

  • Once a spectator shows up. You should shortly land. On a larger place ask him, if he stands by you. He will remain in your back.
  • For you it is essential: I do not fly a showprogram now!!!!
  • You continue to do your exercises provided in compliance with your knowledge of the state.
  • The spectactor is already fascinated enough and will admire you.

Goody!
You have now a level of knowlegde that corresponds to that of a pilot, who take his first solo flight.
Congratulations!
