Helischool - the virtual flightschool
Lesson 1 - Welcome at flightlessons

You have spent days and nights with the buildung of your model. You don't release the feeling, that you are not completely finished yet? No fear, thats normally! The most time you should really invest into the final stage - there are cables which want to be fixed proberly and you have to do last controls of all screws.
Is everything correctly added after plan? Did you tighten the stop screw nuts carefully on the blade bearing shaft in the highly stressed area of the rotor head? Did you make approximate adjustments after the manufacturer data? For balancing the rotor blades you find here a guidance.
Well, then we could make a test run in order to examine the function of the control and make some important attitudes.
Control before the first flight
- Remove the engine safety device clamp the engine!
- Remove the rotor blades and the screws.
- Switch the remote controlling transmitter on.
- Attach the battery to the travel automatic controller.
- Move the two control sticks successively into the final position and control thereby that no servo hit somewhere or were derailed mechanically.
- Turn the rotor by hand and control with fully nodding and with fully roll excursion that no servo is overload (the rotor will brake easily by the diagonally starting swash plate, however don't get about to do abrupt mechanical deceleration).
- Turn the rotor so far that the paddlebar lies along the model.
- Place yourselves with the transmitter behind the model.
- For Roll move the control stick to left and right. The paddles lean in the same direction.
- Turn the rotor so far, that the paddlebar stands across to the flight direction.
- For pitch move the control stick forwards and back. Likewise the paddels lean also forwards and back.
- Raise the heli at the rotor head and turn the laterally back and forth. By the effect of the gyro the tail servo must make easy excursions with fast movement of 2- 3 mm. With Rotation of the Heli to the right, seen top view, the servo pushed the bowdencable or the bar to the rear tail direction.
- By Rotation of the main rotor, seen top viewed in clockwise, the tail rotor turns backward to the flight direction.
- Move the control stick for yaw to the left.
- The tail servo pushed thereby the lever under the tail gear aback.
- By pushing the throttle (pitch) raises the swashplate without tilting in any direction.
- Balance point triming. Raise the model slowly to the cross standing paddelbar. The tailpipe should be horizontally, possible for a tiny tendency upward. Sometimes it is satisfy to shifting the accus to find the right point.
- Examine the free-moving of the ball joints. Here is a guidiance for adjusting stiff joints for beginners.
Battery clamp, then switch off the transmitter.
First test run of the helis
Safety advice: carry eye protector
Attach again the rotor blades. Thereby tighten the screws only so firmly, that the blades do not fold automatically. Tendency: thighten rather too easily!
Replace the engine safety.
In an empty area or on the terrace, but at least under explanation of spectactors the first test run comes. In addition we pushed a 1m long board crosswise by the skids of the heli - it standing at the soil. The board will provide with 2-3 Kilos ballast on both sides of the heli. Now the heli can't possibly take off.
- Switch on the transmitter and put the throttle in idle- neutral position.
- Attach battery of the heli and remove yourself out of the rotor circle.
- Give pitch easily(25%).
- Get accustomed already to the flight sound :-)
- Move the Roll and Nod wiht approx. 50% amplitude, also yaw and control the correct movements of the heli.
- With approx. 30% pitch the blade point raise themselve already upwards.
- Now go on the knees and regarding the rotor exactly from the side. Look thereby tangential on the points. These must absolutely fly in accurately same height! If not, please extend or shorten the appropriate pushrod like in operating instruction.
- For adjusting the rudder effect of the tail rotor it can be underlay an 1 cm batten in skid proximity so that the heli remains imprisoned, but it can turn something around the vertical axis.
- Restart the heli and play with the pitch (approx 50%) like the heli is "dancing on his skids" Trim the yaw in both directions. The tail must react willingly to the trim.
- If it reacts only on one side, of course, sometimes you must adjust the gyro or the length of the string.
Swings the tail back and forth, so the gyro effect is adjusted too strongly.
If the tail want directly pass of in one persist direction after the first piloting, so the gyro is added wrong. Adjustment instruction gyro.
Please settle the necesary work carefully.
Afterwards come to lesson 2
